Purposive Communication focuses on writing, speaking, and presenting to diverse audiences for various purposes (CMO 20, s. 2013). It is a three-unit course designed to develop students' communicative competence and enhance their cultural and intercultural awareness through multimodal tasks. These tasks provide opportunities for students to communicate effectively and appropriately with multicultural audiences in both local and global contexts.
The course equips students with tools for critically evaluating a variety of texts and emphasizes the power of language and the impact of images. It highlights the importance of conveying messages responsibly. The knowledge, skills, and insights gained from this course can be applied to other academic endeavors, chosen disciplines, and future careers. Students will compose and produce relevant oral, written, audio-visual, and web-based outputs for various purposes.
